I’M DRAWN TO IDEAS THAT CAN MAKE EVERYDAY LIFE A LITTLE EASIER.
HERE ARE A FEW PASSION PROJECTS EXPLORING HOW SMALL INTERVENTIONS CAN CREATE MEANINGFUL CHANGE.
ABSOLUT FEARLESS.
Nightlife should mean freedom. But for too many young people in the U.S., it also comes with fear. Drink spiking is on the rise, with 70% saying they’ve experienced or witnessed it.
ABSOLUT. turns a forgotten club accessory into a cultural statement. We reimagine the cocktail stirrer as both a piece of nightlife art and a discreet safety innovation. Hidden inside is technology that changes color to red if a drink is spiked with common substances.
To most, it’s just a beautiful artpiece. To those at risk, it’s quiet reassurance. Rolled out across partner bars in major nightlife hubs, the stirrers blend seamlessly into club culture while quietly protecting those who need it most. Venues receive staff training and clear response pathways, making the innovation part of a larger safety ecosystem. The message is simple: No one should fear a drink.

EMPTY SEAT
In the U.S., roughly one child dies every nine days after being accidentally left in a vehicle. Since 1998, more than 1,000 children have lost their lives. Over half of these tragedies happen for one devastating reason: a caregiver simply forgot.
A parked car can turn lethal in minutes, even on mild days. A child’s body heats up 3–5 times faster than an adult’s. This isn’t a hardware problem, it’s a human one. Modern Volvo vehicles already detect seat occupancy for airbags and seatbelt systems. But when the engine turns off, that data is discarded.
Through turning passive safety data into active protection, we won’t let that happen. Empty Seat transforms existing rear seat-sensor data into a life-saving digital failsafe, continuing Volvo’s legacy of saving lives.
If a rear seat was occupied during the trip, and no rear door is opened after parking, the Volvo Cars app immediately sends an alert: “A seat you used hasn’t been emptied.”
If ignored, alerts escalate inside the vehicle and to pre-selected emergency contacts. No new hardware, no added cost, just a smarter use of the intelligence Volvo already has. Because sometimes the most advanced safety feature is simply a reminder.
