APPLAUSE

AT DRAMATEN, CULTURE IS CREATED FOR THE MANY. BUT TOO OFTEN, IT’S JUDGED BY NUMBERS THAT DON’T REFLECT THE ROOM.

Culture is shaped by numbers. Reviews determine what gets funded, what stays on stage and which voices are amplified. Yet those decisions are often based on a handful of critics, not the hundreds who experienced the performance.

The most honest review has always been in the room. Applause. It’s raw, collective emotion from the audience, and it has never been counted.

Dramaten introduces APPLAUSE, the world’s first real-time applause measurement system. Using acoustic pattern recognition, it analyzes rhythm, synchronicity and intensity to transform applause into measurable data: decibel levels, duration and emotional peaks. Each production now carries an Applause score, a living reflection of the room, visible on Dramaten’s website and echoed through interactive outdoor installations broadcasting low, medium or big reactions. You don’t just read about the play, you hear how it landed.

Dramaten transforms reaction into recognition. Because every hand in the room holds cultural value, and when every clap counts, the future of theatre belongs to the many, not the few.
